About "the listening phone": 116 111 (the helpline in Poland)

Sometimes there is a time or a day in the life of a teenager when she/he needs to talk to someone about a problem. It's good to have someone you trust, and talking frankly with your parents is ideal. Who else can we talk to? Friends we trust. True friends are an invaluable asset.

There is also the option of talking to specialists on 116 111. I learned about this in the magazine "Psychologia nastolatka" (issue 4/2022, pages 34-37). I will quote some extracts from these pages (translated from Polish).

"Each helpline contact is a completely different story, way of life, age and, above all, personality of the caller. All young people have in common the need to talk and receive understanding. A conversation that can bring relief."

116 111 - is a helpline for children and young people; it is free and open 24 hours a day; it is also possible to send a message via 116111.pl; this helpline is run by the Dajemy Dzieciom Siłę Foundation.

116 111 is used by young people who feel the need to talk.

"Parents sometimes say that they didn't think their child was using the helpline. Children declare that they never thought they would benefit from this kind of help."

I learned from the article that we can have misconceptions about the helpline - we may think that it is "only used for emergencies". But the opposite is true: "(...) absolutely everything is talked about and all sorts of people, of all ages, call here."

I leave it to you, dear teenagers, to decide whether or not to use the helpline. In some situations in life we need the help of someone who has experience in solving problems (which I call challenges).

Have a good day and a beautiful life. Dare to live, it's YOUR life.
