“Education should be represented by experts.” (Zdzisław Hofman)

 “Vzdělávání by měli zastupovat odborníci.”

(This post is written in English and Czech)

In “Psychologia nastolatka” (“Adolescent Psychology”) (no. 4/2022, page 77, the magazine is in Polish) we can read the following passage:

“(…) education should be represented by experts who understand the psychological mechanisms and neurobiological processes of young people. Of course this knowledge is at hand. So why don’t officials want to use it? I am not a political expert, but I have the impression that many politicians have a very short-sighted view of their own interests. It seems to them that it doesn’t pay to ‘have’ informed, strong, independent, confident citizens.”

The author of this text is Zdzisław Hofman, teacher, biologist, sociotherapist, trainer of psychological and social competences.

V “Psychologii nastolatka” (“Psychologii dospívajících”, č. 4/2022, str. 77) si můžeme přečíst následující pasáž:

“(…) vzdělávání by měli reprezentovat odborníci, kteří rozumí psychologickým mechanismům a neurobiologickým procesům mladých lidí. Tyto znalosti jsou samozřejmě k dispozici. Proč ji tedy úředníci nechtějí používat? Nejsem politický expert, ale mám dojem, že mnozí politici mají velmi krátkozraký pohled na své vlastní zájmy. Zdá se jim, že “mít” informované, silné, nezávislé a sebevědomé občany se nevyplácí.”

Autorem textu je Zdzisław Hofman, učitel, biolog, socioterapeut, trenér psychologických a sociálních kompetencí.

What is the Polish education system like? Is it not outdated? Does it meet the expectations of students and parents? What can students and their parents do to influence the adjustment of the education system to modern realities? How to influence the politicians who are responsible for the quality of the education system?

These questions can be multiplied. I have the impression that in many schools teachers alone, without the support of headmasters and officials, will not change the situation. The problems of education in Poland are complex, but a joint effort of students, parents, headmasters and local and central authorities (the Ministry) could bring about better education in Poland. But who will take care of it seriously, that is, in the long term?

Jaký je polský vzdělávací systém? Není to zastaralé? Splňuje očekávání studentů a rodičů? Jak mohou studenti a jejich rodiče ovlivnit přizpůsobení vzdělávacího systému moderní realitě? Jak ovlivnit politiky, kteří jsou zodpovědní za kvalitu vzdělávacího systému?

Těchto otázek může být více. Mám dojem, že v mnoha školách samotní učitelé bez podpory ředitelů a úředníků situaci nezmění. Problémy vzdělávání v Polsku jsou složité, ale společným úsilím žáků, rodičů, ředitelů škol a místních i ústředních orgánů (ministerstva) by se mohlo podařit dosáhnout lepšího vzdělávání v Polsku. Ale kdo se o něj bude starat vážně, tedy dlouhodobě?

I would like to recall a sentence by Zdzisław Hofman:

“(…) I have the impression that many politicians have a very short-sighted perspective of looking at their own interests. It seems to them that it does not pay to ‘have’ conscious, strong, independent, self-confident citizens.” What can I add: probably nothing.

Rád bych připomněl větu Zdzisława Hofmana:

“(…) Mám dojem, že mnozí politici mají velmi krátkozraký pohled na vlastní zájmy. Zdá se jim, že “mít” uvědomělé, silné, nezávislé a sebevědomé občany se nevyplácí.”
Co dodat: asi nic.
